From Boy to Man
James had to grow up rapidly , seeing and hearing things, that a man, let along a lad of
14 would baulk at. The next photo was taken on active service in France and is dated
January,1915 on the copy held at Edinburgh Castle. He looks like a laddie excited
about a day out, not one caught up in the biggest conflict the world had seen.
Proud as Punch
Here is another of James , his brother William and mother, taken whilst home on
leave in Scotland, both looking very dapper in their uniforms.
