The son of the local policeman, his brother Henry was a Sgt in the Royal Engineers Special Brigade and would die of gas poisoning on the Somme in 1916

All three Newtongrange teams here, United and Thistle the Juvenile teams and the Star a Junior team. It is worthy of note that in 1916 the Star field a serving soldier Sgt Murphy in their line up, and that classic A N Other, Crawford Letham would captain the post war 1919 team.
