The Borthwicks stayed for a good while at Lingerwood Farm Cottages, Robert and his brother immigrated to Australia to start a new life, when war started in Europe they would answer the call

for King and the 'Old Country'. Robert would not live until the end , he enlisted at Adelaide on 2nd December, 1915 and would be killed in action in France, August,1916. Initially there was doubt as

to whether Robert was dead, and he was reported Wounded / Missing , sadly however after a court

of enquiry he was reported KIA.
