Newbattle Soldier Dies for his Country


Private Robert Drysdale, 1st Scots Guards, Park Lodge, Newbattle , has fallen on the field of battle in France and yielded his young and promising life for king and country. He was severely wounded in action and removed to hospital, where he died twenty four hours later after admission.


He served his time as a forester on the estate of Newbattle and then furthered his experience by a two years attendance at the School of Forestry at Gloucester. When war was declared he was fulfilling an appointment on the Munro – Ferguson estate Novar, Ross-shire. He was 24 years of age


* Private Robert Drysdale 11736 1st Battallion Scots Guards was killed in action 10th May, 1915 and is buried at Chocques Cemetery, France.
